Autumn is Still Flea and Tick Season

Fall is Fleas and Tick Season

Even though Summer 2012 is long past and ShopaholicDog is shopping for fashionable sweaters, the warm Autumn weather means fleas and ticks still abound. Katy the ArT DoG loves to go to the dog park and romp in the woods during the cool weather, it’s easy to forget that fleas can live in the house all year round. So while you’re being grateful for your family and pets this Thanksgiving remember to apply flea and tick medicine on a regular and consistent basis.

Lola of The Philadelphia Pet Hotel recommends applying flea medicine once a month and to change brands periodically since fleas can become immune to the insecticide. Currently Katy is using Advantix II 6-Month Dogs 21-55 Lbs (Red). Since she weighs more than 55 pounds Katy is considered a large dog and applying the medicine only takes a few minutes but for large dogs the topical liquid is applied in four locations down her back and not just at the back of the neck like a small dog. Getting fleas and ticks is definitely not glamourous but even the best Shopaholic Dogs can be exposed to pesky, itchy pests and worse they can get on their humans, too.
